About the Gifted and Talented Education Program

The Georgia Department of Education’s Gifted Program is funded by the State of Georgia. In Georgia, a gifted education student is defined as one who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability(ies), exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation, and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who needs special instruction and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels commensurate with his or her ability(ies).

Montgomery County Elementary School is excited to be a part of this educational program. Currently, we are offering a new class called Talent Development to help prepare students prior to being tested for the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. Students who participate in Talent Development classes do so for a period of 4-6 weeks. Currently, the GATE class meets 3 days each week and serves over 30 students through resource classes. In the GATE program students are challenged to perform various real word tasks.
